    Job Description:

    The duties include, and are not limited to:

     

    – Carefully planning, conceptualising, reporting and writing long and short form stories for the magazine

    – Working with the editorial staff on giving shape to original material, and staying motivated and open to editorial changes and interventions over the long periods that it takes to report and write a Caravan story

    – Staying up to speed on news, especially in the areas of politics and culture, so as to be plugged in to what kinds of stories to go after

    – Importantly, to be a keen observer and fast learner of Indian politics, culture and society

     

    This is a full-time position. Night, holiday and weekend work may be required.

     

    Requirements:

    0-1 year experience in reporting and writing. Ability to cultivate sources, skills to conduct interviews, a nose for news, and a commitment to improving one’s own writing skills. Candidates with a university degree in any subject are preferred.

  • IIMCAA Bihar: Minutes of the 3rd meeting

    Dear IIMCians,


    Here is the minutes of 3rd meeting of Bihar Chapter of IIMC Alumni Association held at Mr Sambhu Nath Singh's residence on December 16.

    1. Members felt the need for organizing a seminar/workshop on a burning issue of mass communication. The ideas for the topic are welcome. It was felt that the topic should be away from sensationalism and preference should be given to practical aspects of journalism/mass media.

    2. Pramod jee of Prabhat Khabar has been designated as organizational vice-president. His role is crucial for building up rapport among the IIMCians and strengthen the process of decision making.

    3. Recently, a section of government officers have been calling up to know if they can join IIMC Alumni Association Chapter of Bihar. These officers have either done some certificate course or have been trained in our prestigious IIMC. Members unanimously referred this issue to national unit.

    Response of IIMCAA:- We welcome every individual as member who did Diploma or Certificate courses offered by IIMC or participated in Trainings conducted by IIMC for Govt Employees like Indian Information Service officers, Army Officers etc.

    4. Imbesat Imam mooted the idea of experience sharing during the meet. From the next meeting 30 minutes will be given to an alumni to share their experience. 

    5. A data bank of four IIMCians working in Bihar but have been not contacted has been prepared.

    6. Next meeting will be held on January 6. Venue will be finalized soon.

    In the next meeting, we will discuss the following issue

    A strong need is also felt to designate responsibilities to members of the chapters to efficiently carry out the functioning of the association. Following steps have been recommended to bring in efficiency,

    A. Preparation of press release and ensuring publication. It's suggested that we designate a PRO or it should be done on a rotational basis.

    B. Contacting members and informing about the date of venue of meet needs to be streamlined. 

    C. Record keeping of meeting and attendance.

  • NE Chapter: 1st Meeting decides to meet again in January

    Dear IIMCians,

     

    The 1st meeting of the North East Chapter of IIMC Alumni Association took place at Seven Sisters Post office on 16 December. Three alumni attended the meeting. Some alumni were out of station so couldn’t attend it. Hence, alumni present in the meeting decided to hold a meeting in January to elect the office bearers of the chapter.

     

    We have planned to hold the next meeting with larger participation of alumni, which will be communicated in advance.

  • Minutes of the 2nd meeting of Maharashtra Chapter

    Dear IIMCians,

    The Maharashtra chapter had its second meeting on 15 December at the famous Veer Kotwal Udyan, near Dadar station.  

    Here are the minutes of the meeting:

    1. Chapter decided to start the membership drive as soon as it starts on national level.

    2. Chapter approved formation of Sub Chapter in Pune as there are number of IIMCians in Pune. President Suryakant Mishra has appointed Neha Shrimali (now Dave) as the coordinator for the Pune Sub Chapter. She will call a meeting to select/elect office bearers of the sub chapter. We will convey the date as soon as Neha conveys it to us. We also decided that president and secretary of Pune sub chapter would be ex officio vice president and secretary of Maharashtra chapter in lines of other sub chapters in the country.

    3. Members decided to visit IIMC Amravati and meet the current batch of the students to provide them with the much needed industry information and required contacts when moving out of the campus and look for opportunities. Maharashtra chapter will consult with the national committee in this regard before proceeding. The date would be decided later and conveyed accordingly.

    4. Teaching opportunities were discussed. Members decided to use alumni network for the same. In addition to the teaching opportunities job and freelancing opportunities were also discussed. Members promised to help out everyone in need.

    5. Senior alumni members discussed the current job opportunities and in Mumbai and also discussed career growth plans with youngsters.

    6. We discussed about the new career opportunity in instructional designing for IIMCians. Pune based alumnus Shivangi will be interviewed by us on her job, and opportunities, which we would like the IIMC blog to post for current batch students and anyone of desirous in knowing about the industry.

    7. Spot issues:
    a. Chapter decided to hold meeting every month till it has active participation in good numbers and to stabilise the chapter.

    b. Next meeting is tentatively scheduled on 19 January 2013 in Andheri suburb of Mumbai to get participation from members residing around. Exact venue and time would be conveyed as it gets finalised.

    8. Krishna and I will be working together to create a directory with detailed profile of all IIMCians in Maharashtra and will be sharing the same with all members for ready reckoning. We will also form a blog for Maharashtra chapter which will be linked to national blog.

    Chapter especially thank Neha Dave and Shivangi Srivastava for coming down from Pune and participating in the meeting.

    IIMC has been the seat of many memories for all of us. From our first tryst with journalism in its truest sense to meeting teachers who inspire us, from finding friends that will last us a lifetime to memories that are cherished forever.
     
    And some of us have been lucky enough to find the love of their lives within the corridors and lawns of IIMC. So this new year why not chronicle those beautiful couples who discovered the pink of romance amidst P2C- s, headlines and advertising!
