  • Concentra Award 2009: Last date 16th January

    The global award for excellence in video-journalism "The Concentra Award 2009" will take place on March 4th at Le Plaza Hotel, Brussels. The award ceremony will once again be a feature of the digital news summit DNA2009.

    The Concentra Award, now in its 4th edition, is the world's most prestigious video-journalism prize. The Award that comes with a 10.000 euro prize, recognises excellence in video-journalism from broadcast TV, news websites, newspaper sites and IPTV news stations. First presented in 2005, previous winners have included Andy Smyth and Ian Barmer from the BBC. Last year the prize was awarded to Idar Krogstad from NRK for his piece The Nightwatch. The Award includes a special prize for short, quick-turnaround news stories – The Breaking News Award. Last year this was awarded to Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley for his coverage of the political crackdown in Myanmar.

    Details of the international jury will be announced shortly. The deadline for Award entries is January 16th, 2009.

  • रिटर्न ऑफ सेंसर…

    सेंसर का नाम आपने बहुत दिनों से नही सुना. लेकिन इस सरकार के इरादे ठीक नही लगते अभी सिर्फ़ टीवी को रेगुलेट करने के नाम पर कानून बनाने की बात हो रही हैं. कानून का मतलब ये हुआ कि सिर्फ़ मुंबई जैसे हमले ही नही बल्कि गुजरात जैसे दंगो का कवरेज भी वैसे ही होगा जैसे सरकार चाहेगी.
     
    न तो हम अमरनाथ का आन्दोलन टीवी पर देख पाएंगे न ही पुलिस के जुल्म की तस्वीरें क्योंकि नेशनल इंटरेस्ट के नाम पर कुछ भी रोका जा सकता हैं. नेशनल इंटरेस्ट वो सरकार तय करेगी जो मुंबई में हमला नही रोक सकी. बात अगर टीवी से शुरू हुई हैं तो प्रिंट और इन्टरनेट तक भी जायेगी.
     
    अभी नही जागे तो बहुत देर हो जायेगी.

    Hi,

    ITExaminer.com and a general news site I'm involved it needs news editors. Hope you can help me by recommending some people looking for jobs. 

    Below is a brief description of what the job entails:

    The job of the news editor on the ITExaminer is to coordinate, facilitate and publish to the web stories generated by the reporters and the freelancers.
    She or he reports directly to the editor, and must possess some management skills, the ability to source and research news stories that need to be written. This also involves chasing up the stories in a timely manner.
    This job requires a degree of editing. The news editor has to ensure that stories are written to house style, are newsworthy, factual, fair, are non-libellous, and are relevant to the publication.

    We're looking for a person with similar skills as news editor for a global general news site as well.

    Besides news editors. I'm also looking for subs and freelance IT reporters based out of Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi.
